To accommodate your certification testing needs, please see the information listed below:

Certification Manual

In State Testing

Certification Testing is conducted during Open Testing Sessions at the Alabama Fire College campus (Tuscaloosa) and at designated locations across the state to accommodate students with initial and retesting needs. Registration for an Open Test session must be completed at least one week prior to the date. A confirmation email will be sent with the date, time, and location after registration is complete.

Open Testing Sessions (Initial and Retest) are conducted in each region of the state on designated days and times each month. Students should schedule a desired certification exam at least one week prior to the desired test date.

To view our state map with designated Regions and Regional Coordinators, please refer to our Regional Services information.

Out of State Testing

Students (CSU, Out-of-State, DOD, etc) that need testing arrangements should follow the steps outlined below. If inside Alabama, please see the In State Testing section.

Your potential proctor must complete the Non-Traditional Training PowerPoint and submit the Non-Traditional Proctor Application to certification@alabamafirecollege.org. The certification exam must be conducted in a professional setting (ex: local library, community college, Base Education Center, etc.). Your potential proctor must meet our Written Exam Selection Criteria (to limit conflicts of interest and protect test integrity).

Once your proctor has been approved, Certification Staff will contact you to finalize the test administration date and type of test administration (computer-based or paper-based). Please allow 2-3 weeks for processing and set up of Non-Traditional testing.

Re-Test Policy

Students have the opportunity for a retest to be taken after 30 days from the original test date and within one year of the course completion date. Any student who fails to complete the required examinations within 12 months of course completion must complete the course again in order to sit for another test.

Students appearing to take a certification exam must present a valid driver’s license or other acceptable photo identification.
